How to Search Using Browse Samples
LIMS offers many different ways to find exactly what you are looking for in the most efficient way possible. This tutorial offers an overview to a search approach using "Browse Samples" feature. Browse search returns back a list matching search criteria, that can be reviewed quickly and allows to drill down to more details when necessary.
1. Browse Sample Menu Option
- Click on Main Menu
- Click on "Sample Life Cycle"
- Click on "browse Samples"
2. Using Smart Search within Browse Sample
To use smart search the detailed search text boxes must be suppressed. Click on double arrows up button to suppress.
Smart search uses a single text box to search multiple criteria types. For example the criteria can be: Lot#, Status, Bulk Code, Bulk Name
- Enter search criteria into Smart Search Text box
- Press Binoculars to execute the search
When using a smart search beware that system does not know exactly which criteria you're searching against so it will return matching records to the search criteria entered. For example if you want to search for all records with status "A". Put in "A" into the text box and execute the search, result will be all the Status "A" records, as well as all the other records that have a letter "A" in the lot number, bulk code, and bulk name.
3. Detailed Browse
To use detailed search the detailed search text boxes must be expanded. Click on double arrows down button to expand. As a default when you open browse samples screen they will be expanded.
- Use any of the text boxes to define your search criteria (can use a single text box, or multiple). Blue text box labels represent a lookup where you can click on the label and search for the necessary information.
- Click on binoculars to execute the search
4. Using Favorite Queries within Browse
- Click on "Star" icon
- Click on the favorite search name to run the search
Favorite searches can be configured for individual users as well as sites. For a customized favorite search please talk to a LIMS administrator.
5. Drill Down to Details
- Select multiple records by checking the checkbox next to Sample ID you would like to open for more details
- Click magnifying glass to open details
- When opening a single record clicking on the lot number directly will open details to that specific record. (The record will be opened in a new tab)
