How to Duplicate a Sample with Results

When a batch is adjusted and requires additional testing after the adjustment, LIMS has an option to duplicate a sample with select results and retest the other parameters that have been adjusted.

  1. Original Sample must be approved with a final status prior to duplication.  Click on the thumbs up button
  2. Select appropriate "Approval" status from the drop down menu.
  3. In this case if you know that lot is being reworked "Rw" is most appropriate.
  4. Click on the "Save" button to assign final status
  5. Status of the sample will refresh to assigned value

  1. Click on the Duplicate Button
  2. Select radio box "Create Duplicate Sample with Results"
  3. Click "OK"
  4. Screen will refresh to a new screen where you can choose which results should be duplicated.  LIMS automatically picks all the passing results to be duplicated and failed results not to be duplicated.  This is helpful in situations where the adjusted batch sample does not need to be tested for all parameters but only for the parameter which failed in the original sample
  5. Select the parameter you would like to move
  6. Use the > or >> buttons to add parameters to be duplicated
  7. Use the < or << buttons to remove parameters to be duplicated
  8. Click Save button after making your choices
  9. Screen will refresh to duplicated sample
  10. Expand "Sample Results" section (you will see results duplicated from the original sample)
  11. Enter Additional Results
  12. Proceed with Approval

3. Classify New Sample as "R..."

WinLIMS - manage Samples (Home>Sample Life Cycle) - Mozilla Firefox
  1. Use the "Pail#/Pseudo" text box to classify sample as a rework, and if it's a rework 1...2..etc
  2. Press the save button or move off the cell to save classification to DB

Classifying a sample in the "Pail#/Pseudo" text box will allow you to keep track of number of reworks.

It will also add a letter "R" to the end of the Lot number and Lot number bar code on the sample label and help to distinguish original sample vs rework on the analytical instrument.
