Sample Type Overview

Sample Type manager contains all the Item templates.  The templates that are approved users can log samples against, and those which are obsolete are kept for records.  Item templates contain a lot of data, most important of which is test parameters and specification for each item.

1. Sample Type Navigation

  1. Click on main menu
  2. Click on "Static Data"
  3. Click on "Sample Types"

2. Sample Type Menu: Add new

Add new should only be used when the site does not have an item interface with an ERP system or the user has already verified that record was not successfully received by LIMS from ERP system.

3. Sample Type Menu: browse Sample Types

  1. Type in Item number, Product Name, or Customer #
  2. Press the binoculars to execute search

When smart search box is used LIMS will search against multiple fields to find matches.

  1. Expand the detailed search section
  2. Define multiple fields for search criteria.  Can define one or all multiple
  3. Press binoculars to execute search

When the detailed search section is expanded you cannot use the smart search text box.  You must first suppress the detailed search section and the smart search box will be available again.

  1. Click on the start icon
  2. Click on the favorite search to execute

3.4. Browse Sample Type Search Output

The output of browse Sample Type no matter what searching option you used shown above will always be a list of matching records.  To open (drill-down) one or more of these records:

  1. Click on the checkbox next to the sample type you would like to open (drill down)
  2. Click on the magnifying glass

QBE: Query by example

This menu option allows you to search for already existing sample types in the system, and the output of this search is a drilled down view, in which you can scroll through multiple records which match your search criteria.

  1. Type in Item number, Product Name, Status, Class or Customer #
  2. Press the binoculars to execute search

When smart search box is used LIMS will search against multiple fields to find matches

  1. Every single white text box on the first section can be a search criteria field.  Define one or more to search against.
  2. Press binoculars to execute search
  1. Click on the start icon
  2. Click on the favorite search to execute

4.4. Sample Type QBE Search Output

Output of the QBE search is drilled down records.  

  1. To scroll through them use the buttons shows above.  
  2. Number of matches is listed next to the scroll bar.
  3. To reset the search press the "X" button

5. Sample Type Manager Menu Icons

  1. Add New: can be used to add a new sampletype (only applicable for sites not using ERP interface)
  2. Binoculars: Execute Search
  3. Favorite Search: List of available favorite searches
  4. Scroll Bars: Used to scroll through search results
  5. Navigate to List: Used to navigate to a list view
  6. Save: Used to save record data
  7. Duplicate: Used to duplicate sample type or create a customer spec
  8. Revise: Used to revise sample type
  9. Approve/Unapprove: Used to approve an item if it's unapproved, or unnaprove an item if it's approved.  The button will change from "X" to thumbs up depending on the status of the sample type you are currently on.
  10. Paper Clip: Used to store item specific attachments
  11. Excel: Used to export data into Excel
  12. Custom Report: used to navigate to single report
  13. Crystal Reports: used to navigate to multiple reports available for Sample Types
  14. Owner field: used to display the owner of the current item
  15. Owner tree: used to set sites to be owners of the item
