How to Search Using Orders QBE
LIMS offers many different ways to find exactly what you are looking for in the most efficient way possible. This tutorial offers an overview to a search approach using QBE (Query By Example). QBE returns detailed drilled down results matching the search criteria.
1. QBE Search Menu Option
Main menu will allow to select the necessary view such as: Sample Life Cycle, Orders, Static Data, etc. From each option you will be able to initiate either the "Browse XYZ" search or "XYZ QBE" search
Screenshot example above shows search options within Orders menu option.
In order to perform QBE search for samples, select "manage Samples" menu item. This is the only place where instead of using convention of showing Samples QBE, the menu item is called "manage Samples"
2. Using Favorite Queries within QBE
Favorite searches can be configured for individual users as well as sites. For a customized favorite search please talk to a LIMS administrator.
- Click on the Star icon
- Click on a favorite search to execute
- Scroll through search results using left/right arrows
3. Using Smart Search Within QBE
- Type search criteria into the smart search text box
- Click binoculars to execute search
- Scroll through search results using left/right arrows
Smart search will look into every cell in the record to see if there is a match. Sometimes it results in many unnecessary records because you are not able to conduct a search on a particular field.
4. Using Detailed Search Within QBE
Detailed Search allows you to search on any field inside of the manager window, and returns back multiple records that match your criteria.
- Populate search criteria into any one of the text boxes within the view
- Click Binoculars to execute search
- Use left and right arrows to scroll through search result
4.1. Wild Card Search Criteria
When only partial search criteria is used, encapsulate it with "%" symbol examples shown below.
- "%" used in front of the search criteria will return all matching results where search criteria text/number is last (Example: %XYZ, will return any matching item where XYZ is the last characters used)
- "%" used in end of the search criteria will return all matching results where search criteria text/number is first (Example XYZ%, will return any matching item where XYZ is the first characters used)
- "%" used in the beginning and end will return all matching results where search criteria text/number is the middle (Example %XYZ%, will return any matching item where XYZ is in the middle
- Encapsulate search criteria with "%" symbols
- Click binoculars to execute search
