How to Create an ODBC Connection for Minitab Macros

In order to export data from LIMS database into Minitab to perform various analysis or macros each user must complete this set-up on the computer to create a database connection.   This set-up only needs to be done once on the computer/laptop

1. Open ODBC Data Source Administration

Desktop
cortana halo - Google Search - Internet Explorer

  2. Scroll to the bottom to select "SQL Server"

3. Define Data Source Properties

Minitab - Untitled
SAP Crystal Reports - [WHC_In-Process_Data_Sheet_Report.rpt]
  1. Define Data Source Name: MTWLV8_Azure_XXX
  2. Define Data Source Description: MTWLV8_Azure_XXX
  3. Define SQL Server:
    1. Americas: NDCA0WPDB026.pahprod.pahglobal.net
    2. Europe: EAMS2WPDB011.pahprod.pahglobal.net
    3. Asia: csin0wpdb010.pahprod.pahglobal.net
  4. Click on "Next"
  5. It's possible that this warning will pop up because you are not changing the Data Source Name from the previous server (Before June 6th 2020).  Please click "Yes" to overwrite. If you do not see this warning just move to the next step.

Data Source Name and Description should be the same for everyone at the site if you would like to share macros.  The only part that will change for other Americas/Europe/Asia sites would be the last characters for specific site location.  In the example above "WHC" is for West Haven.  For other sites it would be their site names (Example Altoona: ALT, South Plainfield: SPLA...etc)

4. Define Authenticity for Data Source

Minitab - Untitled
  1. Click on the radio button to select: "With SQL authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user"
  2. Type in "minitab" for Login ID
  3. Type in "minitab123" for Password
  4. Click "Next"

5. Change Default Database

  1. Click to expand drop down
  2. Select appropriate DB from list
  3. Click "Next"
