How to Review Dynamic SPC in LIMS

Dynamic SPC is calculated and charted in LIMS when there are more then 5 unique lots of data entered for a single Bulk Code.  In order to flag SPC failures administrator has to set-up what rules should be monitored for each item.  Setting up flags for SPC rules is covered in a different tutorial called "How to select SPC rule flags".  This tutorial shows how a user can spot a failure flag, identify what rule was flagged for failure and review SPC chart.

1. Reviewing SPC Status

After the results are entered and saved, they are automatically compared to the Upper and Lower control limits which are calculated by LIMS from historical data for that item.  This is why LIMS requires some history for each item before trying to utilize SPC flags and graphs.

  1. When any of the rules set-up for the item are flagged the SPC Status field shows: "Fail Dynamic"
  2. Result field color will change to light pink to indicate an SPC failure.

2. Determining Which SPC Rules Fail

  1. To find out which dynamic SPC failure occurred click on the graph icon next to the parameter.
  2. All rule descriptions are shown in the pop-up window.  The flagged rule will have a check box checked off before the rule description.  This will tell users what rule failure occurred for that parameter.  (see screen shot above)

3. Reviewing SPC Charts

  1. Click on the graph button in the "Results" section
  2. Scroll through the list of parameters to which you would like to see a chart for
  3. Click on which sigma level to use when calculating control limits
  4. Press "Refresh" button when changing sigma levels or using any of the text boxes
  5. The box provides statistical values for sigma CL's and Cp/Cpks
  6. Use boxes to define your criteria for SPC charting (press "Refresh" button when defining criteria in any of these text boxes)
