Initial Set-Up for Users

This tutorial will provide instruction on the initial set-up required for first time WinLIMS users.  It's important to note that Internet Explorer must be the browser used for WinLIMS.

Below is a list of all the different WinLIMS links depending on the region and business.  Click on the appropriate link:

  1. From Internet Explorer Menu Click on "Tools"
  2. Click on "Compatibility View Settings"

  1. The website you are on will automatically populate in the "Add this website" text box
  2. Click on "Add"
  3. Click on "Close"

NOTE: If the website address does not automatically populate in the text box, check the list to see if it's already been added.  If your site is not on the list manually type in website address into the "Add this website" text box then follow Steps 2-3.  This needs to be done for each computer that will be used to access WinLIMS

  1. Uncheck the "Keep me logged in" checkbox (This is because at initial log-in you will use the default password given by the administrator and at profile set-up change your password, thus its not necessary to "Keep me logged in"

  1. Enter your "User Name" assigned by the LIMS administrator
  2. Enter your default password assigned by LIMS administrator
  3. Click on the "Log In" button

NOTE: Assigned user name is usually the same as the first part (prior to @ symbol) of your Lotus Notes email address.  For example for email address [email protected] the username will be "ykupeyan".  Default password assigned to new users is: #Password

After a successful login you will see this screen

Next Step is to configure your settings under My Profile Section

  1. Click on "My Profile"

My Profile Screen Consist of 3 sections:

  • My Profile
  • My Password
  • My Security Question

In this section you will be able to define various options for your profile.  Double check to see that correct email address is associated with your profile.

  1. Set your preferred "Theme" by selecting from various options available on the "Theme" drop down list.
  2. Set your preferred "Master Page" layout by selecting from various options available on the "Master Page" drop down list.  (This will control location of menus.  Menu will appear across the top of the LIMS page (Top Menu) or are on the left hand side of the lims page (Left Menu))
  3. For proper setting of the Connection string please refer to Step 6.1
  4. Set your preferred "Culture" by selecting the appropriate option from "Culture Info" drop down list.
  5. Set your "Time Zone" by selecting the appropriate option from  "Time Zone" drop down list.  (It's very important to set this appropriate to your region otherwise date stamps will not be accurate)
  6. For proper setting of the Site please refer to Step 6.2
  7. Make sure to always save your setting by pressing the "save" button

Use the list above to determine what Connection String and Site is applicable to your Region, Facility Type and Facility Location.

  1. Set your "Connection String" by selecting the appropriate option from  "Connection String" drop down list.
  2. Save your changes by pressing the Save button.
  3. Refresh the page by Clicking on the "My Profile" Text

NOTE: The sequence is very important in this step.  Without properly setting and saving your connection string the list of sites will not load. If you do not see the connectionstring you need on the list of available options, contact your LIMS administrator.  After you save changes and refresh the page list of available sites will load and you are ready to move to step 6.2

Use the list in Section 6.1 to determine what Site is applicable to your Region, Facility Type and Facility Location.

  1. Set your "Site" by selecting the appropriate option from  "Sites" drop down list.
  2. Save your changes by pressing the Save button.
  3. Refresh the page by Clicking on the "My Profile" Text

NOTE: If you do not see the site you need on the list of available options, contact your LIMS administrator.

7.0  My Password Section

Change your password from the generic password assigned to you by the LIMS Administrator.  Your password must be at minimum 7 characters long and contain at minimum one special character.

  1. Type in your default password
  2. Type in your new password
  3. Type in your new password again
  4. Save changes

Change your security question from the generic question assigned to you by the LIMS Administrator.  Generic Question is a calculation "2+2=?" and the answer is "four"

  1. Type in your password
  2. Type in your new Security Question
  3. Type in your new Security Answer
  4. Save changes

To Navigate back to the Home Page Click on "Home"

At the top of the screen on the right hand side you will be able to confirm your Site and Connection String.

If you find that your Site is set to "all" that means your settings were not saved and you must repeat step 6.2
