Multiple Sample Approval

When there is a large quantity of sample which are ready to be approved, it is more efficient to utilize a feature in LIMS which allows you to approve multiple samples at once.  This tutorial will cover how to use this feature.

  1. From Homepage in LIMS hover cursor over "Sample Manager"
  2. Select "Find Sample (Work Orders)" from this drop down

Hover cursor over favorite search icon to see a list of available favorite searches.

Anyone can create a favorite search utilizing "Favorite Query Builder" (explained in a separate tutorial), when you find yourself searching for something specific over and over again create a favorite search for it.

This favorite search will find any samples which are in "V" - Validated or "C" - Completed status

3.1. "Samples Pending Approval" Search Results

  • These records are sorted based on "Entered On" date in the ascending order.
  • Records designated by Sample Status "C" are those which are completed, with all results entered in, but have not been validated against the specification limits.
  • Records designated by Sample Status "V" are those which are completed and have been validated again the specification limits.
  • Review Spec Status to make sure record which you plan to approve are "PASS" otherwise they will not approve.

NOTE: Auto validation is an option set at SampleType level.  Its default to auto validate each parameter unless set otherwise.

4. Selecting Samples for Multiple Sample Approval

  1. To select samples for approval click on the check box to the left of each sample.  The entire row will be highlighted in yellow when a sample is selected.  When all the samples returned by this search need to be approved click on the check box in the main header and it will automatically select all the records on this page.
  2. In the case of this example, since sample ID 2011000234 does not have "PASS" in spec status it will not be approved.  This record will have to be reviewed individually.
  3. To proceed with approval click on "thumb up" button

  • This dialog box will appear when you approve.
  • Here you can choose which approval to assign to selected samples by clicking on the status drop down menu.

  • Select Appropriate status and click on the save button

Since one of the records we selected did not have a Spec Status "PASS" it cannot be approved and requires further attention.  This dialog will appear and allow you to open this sample and review the record.

  1. To Open this sample for review click on the check box to the left of the sample ID
  2. Click on Magnifying glass for a detailed review
