How to Reformat a CSV File

CSV files generated from SQL script contain merged columns and require minor formatting.  This tutorial will explain a fast method to format the file.

1. Open CSV file with Excel

  1. In the email double click on csv file attachment
  2. It will automatically open with excel, if you have that program installed on the computer

2. Expand Width of Column "A"

  1. To expand the width of column "A" either double click on the divider line between column "A" and "B" or click and drag the devider to expand the column
  2. Click on header to select the column

3. Delineate the Columns

  1. Click on tab "DATA"
  2. Click on button "Text to Columns"
  3. Make sure radio button is clicked for "Fixed Width", Click Next
  4. Remove the line which was automatically placed at width "27" by double clicking on the line
  5. Scroll to the right and remove line automatically placed at width "74" by double clicking on the line
  6. Click on the line automatically placed at width "76" and drag it to "90"
  7. You should end up with two lines at numerical scale "61" and "90".  Verify and click "Next"
  8. Click "Finish"

4. Save Formatted File

Click on the save button to save newly formatted file.
