1. Searching Approaches Overview
Major search levels are available off main menu are:
1.1 Browse
1.2 QBE
These are further broken down to subsequent searching methods within each approach explained in more detail below
1.1. Browse Search Overview
Browse search returns a list of items matching your search criteria and has the following subsequent searches:
- Smart Search
- Detail Browse
- Favorite Search
- Query Search
1.2. QBE Search Overview
QBE (acronym for query by example) allows you to search on any field inside of the manager window, and returns back multiple records which match your criteria. The records can be scrolled through. This search does not return a list.
- QBE Search by defining any of the fields available in the manager view
- Smart Search
- Favorite Search
- Query Search
2. Performing a Smart Search
Smart search uses a single text box to search multiple criteria types. For example when performing a smart search on "Browse Orders" view. The criteria can be: Order#, Status, Customer #, Customer Name, Priority, Owner
- Enter search criteria into Smart Search Text box
- Press Binoculars to execute the search
When using a smart search beware that system does not know exactly which criteria you're searching against so it will return matching records to the search criteria entered. For example if you want to search for all records with status "A". Put in "A" into the text box and execute the search, result will be all the Status "A" records, as well as all the records that have a letter "A" in the lot number, owner field, Customer Name, Priority and such.
3. Performing a Favorite Search
- Click on "Star" icon
- Click on the favorite search name to run the search
Favorite searches can be configured for individual users as well as sites. For a customize favorite search please talk to a LIMS administrator.
4. Query Search
- Click on query button to build a query
- Build the query
- Press button to execute
Query search might require additional training please discuss with LIMS administrator if interested in learning to use this feature.

- Use any of the text boxes to define your search criteria (can use a single, or multiple)
- Blue text box labels represent a lookup where you can click on the label and search for the necessary information.
- Click on binoculars to execute the search
Each View (Samples, Orders, Tanks, SampleTypes, Methods) will have its own set of text boxes to define search criteria. Example above uses Orders view.

In QBE search a view opens just like when you add a new record. Except this view is used to define search criteria.
- Define search criteria in any of the text boxes in the view
