How To Set-up Calculations

Calculations can be set-up in LIMS for various needs. Users utilize this function to automatically calculate ratios, averages, %rsd values, percentages etc. This tutorial will explain how to set-up a calculation to use constants or values of other parameters within one Process Code.

Follow "How to Search in Method Manager" tutorial to find applicable method record.

Method does NOT need to be unapproved to perform calculation changes.

1. Access to Calculation Field in Method Manager

2. Create a Calculation

2.1. Utilizing a Result of Parameter from Current Method

  1. Click on table icon to show a list of available parameters within this method
  2. Click on the parameter you wish to add to your calculation
  3. Selected parameter is appended into the calculation with correct syntax.
  4. Complete the calculation using the necessary mathematical operators in the example above (*) multiplication symbol
  5. Add necessary constant value.  In the example above 1.2
  6. Yellow highlighted part of the calculation was added from selecting the necessary parameter.  Red highlighted part of the calculation was typed in manually to complete the calculation
  7. Press Checkbox to save the calculation
  8. Save the change on the Method level

2.2. Utilizing a Result of Parameter from a Different Method

  1. Click on Checkbox next to "All Tests"
  2. Click on table icon to show a list of available parameters.
  3. Start typing the name of the parameter, (this will decrease the number of matching entries in the drop down list).  Click on the parameter you wish to add to your calculation
  4. Selected parameter is appended into the calculation with correct syntax.
  5. Complete the calculation using the necessary mathematical operators in the example above (*) multiplication symbol
  6. Add necessary constant value.  In the example above "1.2"
  7. Yellow highlighted part of the calculation was added from selecting the necessary parameter.  Red highlighted part of the calculation was typed in manually to complete the calculation
  8. Press Checkbox to save the calculation
  9. Save the change on the Method level

Ensure the Process Code has all the necessary methods.  If the method associated with parameter listed in the calculation is not added, the calculation will have no result to calculate from.
